Writing Communities

Writing Workshop Communities will begin in January 2024!

Ready to commit to taking your writing to the next level? This option offers you extensive, multi-angled feedback and a strong sense of community.

Writing Workshop Communities cap out at 6 writers. This is because each writer plays a vital role in the class. Writers should be willing to commit to submitting 3 pieces of writing (under 6,000 words) to be workshopped and reading/commenting on the work of other members every two weeks.

We will meet on Zoom for 1.5 hours every other week for 12 weeks.

How it works:

Three of the six participants submit work to the group a full week before the next Zoom meeting, and everyone reads and prepares comments for the three writers to be workshopped. The following Zoom meeting (two weeks later), we do the same thing for the other 3 writers. We switch off for six sessions, meaning that each writer has three pieces of writing critiqued. The three pieces of writing could be three parts of a longer work, or they could be unrelated shorter works; the choice is yours.

During each Zoom session, I lead the class of six writers through a discussion of the excerpts and related narrative craft techniques. Writers receive written comments from me and others, as well as a Zoom recording if you’d like. Participants should expect to gain expertise and knowledge during the workshops of their classmates as well as the workshops of their own excerpts.
